Naomi Coker | Birth Photography

February 24, 2018

I have always found birth photography captivating. It is emotional, labourous, and incredibly intimate. This week I speak with Naomi Coker about her experience as a birth photographer, including a small facet of her work that touches on families who experience infant loss. I learned a lot over our conversation, as this is very new terrain for me, and I have to say I found her perspective and creative vision to be both beautiful and refreshing.

Damian Lidgard | Sable Island Horses

February 18, 2018

Damian Lidgard is a marine zoologist researcher with Dalhousie University and his work brings him to a small sand bar in the Atlantic every year where he has the occasion to shoot the famous wild horses of Sable Island. Damian's work is often full of negative space and simplicity. A style that is quite reflective of his studies in Miksang Contemplative Photography, a sort of meditative photography. He also has a book out about his work on the island and an annual calendar which is well worth your dollar.

Mary Ann Wamboldt | Portraiture & the Kingston Photographic Club

February 18, 2018

I spoke with Mary Ann Wamboldt about the Kingston Photographic Club and what it's like to shoot the paintball subculture, not to mention shooting portraiture in general and how she goes about forming a connection with her subjects. We also talk about the club, their outings, guest lectures & competitions, not to mention everything else they have to offer photo enthusiasts around town. And if you see an interesting lecture you'd like to sit in on, ask them about their guest pass!

Viara Mileva | Documentary Style Family Photography

February 18, 2018

I would describe Viara's work as crooked, imperfect, out of focus at times, and never posed. Don't get me wrong though, these are the very characteristics that make her work incredibly personal as she immerses you in the moment and reveals the quintessential elements, emotions & day to day moments that make her subjects who they are. Check out Viara's work here.
